 How To Switch Web Hosts
Many people stay with a not-so-good hosting company because they fear switching over to a new
company, don't know how, or worry about their site being down during the move. The following steps
will show you how to move your website simply and without any downtime!
Any questions? Please feel
free to ask us. We are here to help!
- You have made the first step by finding your new hosting company. But don't cancel your account
with your old company yet. If you, or they, cancel your account then you will have downtime on your website!
- Sign up for your hosting package at your new company and you are ready to move over your site from
your old company to the new account. This can be accomplished by using FTP to download your files from
your old site to your computer, and then use FTP to upload your files to your new account. This is as simple
as copying files, but we can easily assist you if necessary. Read our easy instructions for this at
our online help center:
Setting up Your Hosting Account...
- After you have all your files on both accounts, you can change your domain name (www.yourname.com) to point
to your new account. Or you can easily transfer your domain name registration over to the new company as well.
To change your domain name servers where your domain is registered, please see our easy instruction in our
help center:
Modifying the Name Servers for Your Domain...
- It can take from 24-48 hours for your domain name server settings to reflect your new hosting account. Once this has changed,
then you may cancel your old hosting account and you are done! No one will ever know you switched hosts for your website.
